How to Uninstall a Program in XP

The Transcript

Uninstall Programs in Windows XP

Hi, I'm Don Schechter with About.com Computing. Today I'll show you how to uninstall programs on Windows XP.
Why Uninstall Programs in Windows? You might want to uninstall software on your computer to free up hard drive space or if you are, for example, replacing one antivirus program with another.
Enter the Window's Control PanelCLICK Start / Control Panel, or if in classic view,
CLICK Start / Settings / Control Panel To check what mode you are in, you can right click on the start menu and go to properties.

Here you can choose the classic start menu which I actually prefer. Once you click on the control panel, double click 'Add or Remove Programs.'

Find a Program to UninstallYou can see that the top icon, 'change or remove programs' is selected. Scroll through the list until you find the program that you want to install.
Uninstall the ProgramHighlight the program and click 'Change/Remove.'

Depending upon the software you will be guided through a very quick wizard making sure that you want to uninstall or make changes to the program. Once the program is uninstalled you'll see it has been removed from the list. Thanks for watching. For more information visit us online at computing.about.com.

Screen Capture Reviews

I downloaded & tested 5 programs but only one of them is worth mentioning.  It has 2 versions.

Free Version

While this program may not have all the extra controls that paid versions have it will do the job for most needs. I can highly recommend this program. Since this is the program that I am going to keep I have set the program to save to a specific folder and even changed the type of file that it was saving as from a GIF type file to a JPG type file.  I noted that it also has BMP as a choice.  For being a free program it is well worth the time to download and install if you only need the basics when it comes to screen captures.  Of course if you really want a strong program to do more then the pro version is just the thing for you.  http://www.wisdom-soft.com/ for both the free version and the pro version.

ScreenHunter 5.0 Free is a completely free screen capture software for you to easily take screenshots.
Please tell all your friends and colleagues about ScreenHunter. So they can get it too!
ScreenHunter 5 Free is free for unlimited personal and business use. It has no expiration date and can be distributed with free of charge.
Note to software companies and publishers:
ScreenHunter 5 Free is completely free to be included on your products, publication, CD-ROMs and on your website.

Pro Version

The pro version has more controls and is well worth the cost if you need more than the free version offers.

Screen Capture Software

Today I am focusing on Screen Capture Software.  I have downloaded 6 programs.  It will take a while for me to try them.  I have been using SnagIt 8 but the free trial is about to end.  While it is a top quality program I would like to see what other programmers have to offer. SnagIt cost $39.95 and there may be others that is just as good and more cost effective.  We'll see.

On a side note... this post is being done through Windows Live Writer from my desktop so that I don't have to log in ... post ... log out.  I love it.

Pain Reduction Through Technology

This is a short input about what I've learned over the years about how technology helps to reduce pain. I have what is called a T.E.N.S. (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulator) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transcutaneous_Electrical_Nerve_Stimulator unit that is designed to help reduce pain in a specific part of your body. It sure helps. Another technological device that I use is a heating pad which without the use of electricity this would not be possible.

We live in a very advanced technological society and take a lot for granted. If we as a nation of people were shut down from our technology we might not be able to function for a while. There is parts of the world where simple technology has not even been introduced.

Be very thankful that the U.S.A. is still running as strong as it has been.
